Kalita Co. of Tokyo developed the wave in 2010 in an effort to further improve on the existing pour over styles of the time. The wave has a flat bottom and 3 drain holes which increase extraction and lower the likelihood of channeling. The resulting cup tends to favor body and juiciness.
