Red volcanic soil often found in east Africa provides the minerals and nutrients needed to sustain year round coffee production. Kenya enjoys two harvests per year: May-June and October-December. Grevillea and Macadamia are planted as shade trees for the coffee plants, which produce more complex characteristics in dappled light conditions, as well as providing an additional crop.
