El Guayabal (The Guava Grove) is a farm of about ten thousand coffee trees owned and operated by Lisandro Quilcue Trochez. Lisandro lives in Tolima, where he is the leader of his local Paez community. The Paez (also Nasa) people are one of the primary indigenous communities of south west Colombia, and have been the recipients of both colonial and gang-related violence for centuries. They're now organizing with other local indigenous groups such as the Guambiano people, to increase their political power and shine light on the issues their communities face.
At his farm, Lisandro focuses first on quality and has aspirations of international recognition, and we're happy to play a small part in making that happen for him. In 2021 a coffee he entered won 6th place in Colombia Tierra y Diversidad 6th edition.
